Editor’s Note: Deeluxe Chicken closed in 2020.
Nana’s restaurant chef and owner, Scott Howell, recently shifted some of his focus to more casual concepts, like a new fast casual fried chicken joint called DeeLuxe Chicken.DeeLuxe, which is run by Howell and Rick Robinson (also a former Magnolia Grill vet), will officially open Wednesday, September 12th in the former Oval Park Grille space at 1116 Broad Street. It’s great to see this neighborhood restaurant bustling with life again! The menu is everything you’d expect and more from a restaurant that promises plump and juicy chicken entrees in the form of sandwiches, baskets, and salads. Not to mention a variety of fun sides and an impressive self-serve sauce bar, featuring nearly a dozen signature creations. I can’t decide which are my favorite of the mayo, ranch, and bbq-based options, which is fine because you can try a bunch. I especially enjoyed the Alabama white sauce, which added a nice kick to the hearty chicken breast sandwich and large chicken tenders on toast. The price for the potions seems fair with most of the mains hovering around $8.00. There are even some seafood options, like fried oyster baskets, which as you imagine, cost a bit more. The $3 sides include everything from thick Velveeta Mac n’ Cheese to Spicy Asian Cucumbers. There’s also a soft serve pump ready for a quick and cool dessert. The bar features eight NC taps, bottled and canned beers, and a wine list, including bubbles and sake. There will also be $5 margaritas. Some fun non-alcoholic choices include fresh lemonade/limeade and signature ice teas like Hibiscus Lemon.
With its fun and casual atmosphere near Duke, Deeluxe will likely become a favorite spot for students, as well as families in the area, and those looking for a filling and fast meal at lunch dinner. Check it out soon!
