If you’ve been curious about what’s to become of the space that was formerly Deeluxe Chicken at 1116 Broad Street, you can say hello to the newest location of The Loop, known for casual American fare like burgers, pizza and milkshakes.
The Loop opened its first North Carolina location in 1996 in Chapel Hill. They have since expanded to four areas across the state, including one on Duke’s campus.
Durham Expansion
We asked The Loop’s chief marketing officer, Marla Quattrone, why they decided to expand in Durham and what they like about their upcoming location on Broad Street: “The Loop has been really popular on the Duke Campus for over 20 years. When this great location on Broad Street became available, we knew it had the nice, close neighborhood vibe we’ve enjoyed being a part of, so we leapt at the chance to join the community,” she shared.
Each Loop location is a little different, infused by the local people, architecture and neighborhood vibe. Loop co-founder, Terry Schneider, designed the remodel and rebrand of their flagship location in Jacksonville in January 2017. “It’s fun,” says Quattrone, “Terry’s a Francophile and Beatles fan, so our vibe is a warm and welcoming brasserie meeting the glamour and humor of the 70’s. Colorful kaleidoscope and French etching murals, retro chandeliers accented with bold black and white stripes create a beautiful environment.”
As many recall, there is a cozy, walled-in patio on the outside of the restaurant as well.
Signature Menu Items
The overall vibe will be family-friendly (good news for those who enjoyed taking their kids to Deeluxe before they closed).
The Loop is known for their fresh, open flame-grilled burgers, particularly the bacon cheddar burger. Their spicy chicken cilantro pizza and walnut gorgonzola and Asian chicken salads are also popular. Quattrone also highlights their tomato bisque with cream and bacon, and of course, everyone loves the hand-dipped milkshakes served with the extra in the tin!
Opening (in a pandemic)
The Loop on Broad Street is slated to open February 2, 2021. All that’s left now is hiring, final signage and equipment delivery, installation and final inspection. Hours at the new location will be 11am-9pm Monday-Thursday and open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday.
Of course, opening during the pandemic will look a little different for this location of The Loop. Their “Very Important Neighbor and People Parties” will be limited in scale with special training used to ensure compliance with CDC Guidelines. They will be doing more curbside delivery during the events as well.
In terms of safety protocols put in place for the long-term, they will have acrylic barriers at the counter point-of-sale, and barriers between a few booths to maximize seating capacity. Other safety measures include mandatory masks, single use menus and utensils, social distancing, and reduced seating in the patio. All employees have their temperature taken before work, and strict hand washing policy’s are enforced. Additional routine cleaning is also implemented.

My husband and frequently ride past the Loop every week, but this time we turned around and went back. Very glad we did! I had the Walnut Gorgonzola salad and added cajun chicken, and my husband had the Loop burger with steak fries. Everything was delicious. My new go-to place for salads. I plan to try them all. Great service as well!
