**Editor’s Note: Secrets Pho and Noodle Bar closed in 2022**
The large corner spot on Ninth Street has gone through a couple iterations as bakeries, but it is about to transform into a Vietnamese restaurant called Secrets Pho and Noodle Bar. Secrets has had a sign up visible on the exterior for several months and is finally approaching opening date!
Alex Ho, the creator and owner of Secrets, is from Houston, TX, where he has successfully opened four of these restaurants. He wanted to bring a more diverse Asian menu to the area with Vietnamese being the staple cuisine. “Also, the area demands a more healthy and quick service concept,” he adds.
He chose the location at 810 Ninth Street because the demographics fit with their healthy and fresh concept, coupled with the number of exchange students who study at Duke and the surrounding area.
The interior is contemporary, clean and relaxed. There are eight tables inside and more than 12 tables outside on the large, comfortable patio—perfect for socially distant dining.
Obviously, delivery will be an option as well. Along with phone-in for pick up, they will partner with delivery services DoorDash and Chownow.
The menu, which includes gluten-free and vegan options, will feature signature items like Pho (noodle soups), Banh Mi (French Vietnamese sandwiches), along with entrees mixed from all parts of Asia. For special drinks, they will have gourmet teas, Thai tea, and Viet Coffee. They also have a catering menu available.
Prices are fair, ranging from $7.50 for a Banh Mi to $10-$12 for a bowl of Pho or similarly priced bowls, rice plates or stir fry
Secrets will open to the public 11am-9pm daily starting this Saturday, July 11th.
