It’s been a busy couple weeks in Durham with several grand openings (and re-openings)…everything from new event space to restaurant openings to a highly anticipated reopenings. Here’s a recap of some of Durham’s early April highlights.
As everyone knows, the Durham Co-op officially opened in March, and this weekend (Saturday, April 11) it will have a grand opening celebration all day long! There will be samples, local food, beer and music. Stop by to shop, sample and enjoy this new community co-op.

Last Friday (April 3) eager ice cream fans lined up at The Parlour, which reopened in downtown Durham after closing for a few months to complete an expansion into the next door space. The new and improved Parlour has lots of seating and still all the tasty ice cream you know and love.

Just down the road on Foster Street, a new modern event space opened inside what will soon be The Rickhouse, available for parties, receptions and events and it has the coolest view of the historic Durham Athletic Park from the back patio. Local caterers, like Durham Catering Co., which showcased their skills during a recent media event, will work with the space as preferred vendors.

In other restaurant news, I’ve been reading great reviews about True Flavors Diner on Highway 55 in Durham. True Flavors began as a catering company and now serves classic yet modern diner dishes for breakfast, lunch and brunch. The Stir Crazy Mom’s Guide to Durham raves about it, and I’m really looking forward to trying it for myself soon.
Lastly, in food truck news, KoKyu BBQ opened a brick and mortar location called KoKyu Na’Mean at 4823 Meadow Drive in Durham. Check out The Wandering Sheppard‘s review for more on this cool new lunch spot.
