We’re thrilled to be the first source to officially let you know about the fate of the old Beyu Caffe space in downtown Durham! As many of you know, Beyu (at 335 W. Main St.) is moving into an expanded space a couple doors down, which will leave their current location open and ready to welcome a London-style gastropub run by the co-owners of Bull McCabe’s and the owner of Tan-durm food truck!
In true English style, the new establishment will bring fine ales and feature British and South Asian cuisine, including delicious curries.
Owners of the popular downtown Irish Pub Bull McCabe’s, Rhys Botica and Malachy Noone, have teamed up with part owner of Greenville, N.C.’s, Kasturi Indian Restaurant and the Triangle’s Tan-durm food truck, BJ Patel, and plan to get started on the pub/restaurant as soon as Beyu transitions into its new space. They expect the move-in to take place in May, with an opening slated for ten weeks after.
“We’re proud to be able to take over the location once [Beyu] moves a few doors down,” says Patel. “Dorian and everyone at Beyu have done such a great job making that location vibrant, and we plan to continue the tradition.”
The London-style public house will offer a wide range of English, European, and local craft beers, along with a fine selection of single-malt scotch. And when it comes to the food, Patel will bring the South Asian flavors of his popular Indian endeavors, as well as an exploratory approach to British food culture with dishes such as Curried Shepherd’s Pie. Patel’s British/Indian/Asian cuisine will be representative of the food you’d find on a trip to London. Chicken Tikka Masala was invented in the U.K., after all.
We can’t wait to hear more about the progress of this space and get a taste of a brand new concept to arrive soon in the Bull City!
